We often forget that big changes start with small, meaningful steps.

BOQ Lodging, a proud subsidiary of Weichert Corporate Housing, recently took an impactful step forward, donating gently used furniture and household goods to the USO Warrior and Family Center at Fort Belvoir, VA, the largest USO in the world.

This donation helps foster a fresh start for those who serve and is a small but significant stride towards reducing our environmental footprint.

And with Earth Day just behind us (April 22), the timing couldn’t be more fitting. Because what better way to honor our planet than by giving good things a second life and making a difference where it counts?
The USO Warrior and Family Center supports enlisted service members (E-5 and below) who are just beginning their military journeys or setting up new homes. Thanks to BOQ Lodging, these heroes will receive essential items that help transform houses into homes—furnishings that provide comfort, dignity, and a sense of stability during times of transition.

But this initiative isn’t just about helping people, it’s also about helping the planet.

By upcycling the equivalent of five fully furnished one-bedroom apartments, BOQ Lodging kept more than 50 pieces of furniture out of local landfills. That’s a big win when you consider the environmental impact of discarded furniture. Landfilled items contribute to methane emissions, a potent greenhouse gas. Upcycling, in contrast, extends the life of these items, reducing waste and conserving the raw materials and energy that would have gone into producing new furniture.

At Weichert Corporate Housing, we believe that doing good and doing well go hand in hand. Supporting sustainability programs and giving back to our communities is a core part of who we are, and we are proud to help move the needle toward a greener, more compassionate world.
