As August draws to a close and you start reflecting on the success of your summer intern program, remember that it’s never too early to start planning for next year’s program. And some of the most valuable feedback for shaping the future of your program will come from the interns who’ve just experienced it.

A well-built survey is key to collecting this feedback, and we’ve done the homework on the questions you need to ask:

How would you describe our company culture? Was it on point?

Your culture may look great on paper, but is it visible across your company and employees?

If you could make a change to your internship, what would it be?

Get feedback on changes that you might have to make to your program, and open yourself up to new ideas on how to improve the overall program.

Did the position match your expectations?

Do your position descriptions align with the actual experience? And did they meet expectations? Insight like this will prevent you from potential misleading of future interns.

Did you feel the housing/allowance stipend provided was adequate for your internship?

Is your housing program delivering on driving talent to your organization? If not, how can you improve that experience.

What, if anything would you change about the company as a whole?

Avoid complaints and look for the intern to offer suggestions – a fresh set of eyes can offer companies valuable feedback.

What do you see as the next steps in your career?

Are your interns candidates for future hires? Do their career steps align with their performance? How well did the embrace the company culture?
